As you can see on Kohens plate we cut the ribs off the bone for the boys....When Kayd was done his supper he asked if he could have another rib, but under one condition! He got to eat it like Daddy & Grandpa! Boy did he enjoy them!

This latest bag is call a "Jelly Bag" .....so easy to make! If you don't have a Jelly roll simply cut your own...17 strips and what a great way to use up some of your stash! Only this bag was not made of leftover stash!

While on one of our many trips to Ontario to visit Mom my sister and I would sometimes slip away for a few short hours and of course it was always to the Quilt Shops. We found these prints and the local quilt shop in town and the pattern came from a quilt shop across the border. Bunny Hill Designs..."Jelly Bags"....#1004

A New Year......and a New List

Yup... we have been challenged again in our guild to complete as many UFO 's as possible in the 2012 year. Each completed project off this list that is shown at one of our meetings gets your name entered in for a $250.00 gift card at one of our local quilt stores! Guess I better get at it, eh. I have actually gone through my patterns and material stash to find that I have well over 75 projects to be completed. Now how silly is that? ...and yes it is; but what is it with us quilters cause I'm almost betting that you can be sure my list won't be as long as some others! I guess we would almost have to call it an addiction. I just cannot bring myself to walk out of any quilt store without buying more than what I went in for. Enough said about that....there I have confessed!

Now to share with you a few glances of some of my fabrics....pay close attention because I'm going to be playing a give-a-way about half way through the year and it will help if you can remember some of my fabrics, and you never know some of those photo's might accidently disappear off my blog.

Not sure if you will have noticed or not but I have completed 6 of my PHD's for 2011. I think I have a few to add to my 2012 list as well as a few new projects. So I guess you could say I better get my quilting butt in gear! I do have my stella does spring quilt for "Show & Tell though and a few more Christmas pictures to share

One of the things that I recieved after Mom passed away this summer was this end table that I helped her to purchase....it will be my table of blessings. It will always be a treasure as well as the photo's that I display on it! Have been thinking of Mom and missing her so much over the holidays and just wanted to share this as well. Love you Mom!

Guess I got told, eh. Those are the words I heard from my sister this evening while chatting on the phone...amd she is right. I knew this really wasn't for me, not sure why I really started this; actually right now as I type I am asking myself that same question again; "Honestly Barb, why are you doing this? You hate journalling or writing letters so why would you be thinking you can be a blogger?" But one thing I do know and that is that I am no Quitter! LOL

So here I sit, tired as can be but I do not want to dissappoint my sister while she is enjoying her morning coffee.

I guess with Winter comes hats and this Grandma is loving every minute as I stitch for my darling grandchildren. While out in Medicine Hat at our granddaughters 5th birthday I crocheted these three little hats for the girls.....just had to share!

Of course what I really wanted to share was my cute little girls! I'm sure you would agree, right?

Two more girlie ones then the revising starts...going to try and change it up a bit to suit our two little grandsons.

Ya I know it's winter just around the corner but I do have a new quilt finished just in time for the season. My sister, niece and I made a quick(quilters quick) trip to Moose Jaw last spring and I fell in love with this pattern. Seams like every quilt I do I like to be able to add some sort of hand work or embellishing on it. Well I loved the flowers and ric rak and I couldn't resist, beside the one taht sits at our couch could hardly keep you warm on a warm summers nite anymore....getting very thin but I 'm thinking I can move that one to the car or trailer, right? Got to find a place for it and the others so I can keep making more

August 20th I said goodbye forever to my dear and special Mom....forever in this life, that is.

A very very sad day as well as the summer as I watched her suffer in pain and eventually slip away. My days are just not the same and there is such an emptiness that I can not imagine ever going away.

But one thing is for sure....I am forever grateful for all the time well spent together and all the wonderful memories that will be cherished forever.

Must not forget about my little project I had time to complete yesterday as well as use up some of those lemons in my fruit bowl. Even had time to take some to coffee row and share them with a few friends.

I think I did share that I completed my Winter Wonderland quilt and snuggle under it quite often. I figure I should show you a picture of it before it gets too warn out! ha ha I laugh but believe me summer or no summer, hardly a day goes by that either Rocky or I are not under one of those quilts. The little hat I finally completed for Olivia to match her little leggings is now a little out of season but I gave it to her anyway. She can always enjoy it on her dollies if nothing else.

The picture of the little "quiet please" door pillow is not the best but it was kind of hard taking the picture directly into the sunlight. I'm hoping that this will be a great way to let visitors know that little Lacey is Napping....

A Garden to Keep

This morning after my bike ride I decided to grab a coffee and a book and enjoy a half hour of the beautiful morning sun. The book I have started to read I picked up at our church library awhile back and forgotten I had it. A Garden to Keep by Jamie Langston Turner had me thinking of my tiny little garden and yard and how much I love it in summer time. I felt the need to run in and grab my camera and Share with you a few of the reasons I so love summer and my yard. The roses are blooming and the Tiger Lilies are popping daily and I love the colour it adds to my yard. I also had to snap a quick photo of my little pole bean patch because on Sunday Kayd decided that Gramma should have his bean plant to add to her garden. I'm sure it will be the cutest and of course produce the best tasting beans of the whole patch.... yummm yummm, my favorite!

You've Got One Hour!!

Well when I got off the phone with my sister these were her last words as she hung up....

One hour I thought to myself as I heard my hubby walking into th

e house from work. I didn't have supper ready and we had made plans for a quick bike ride on his new bike and I have a meeting at church tonite and my sister tells me she will give me one hour to have something new posted on my blog because it's been forever since I have done anything even remotely close to posting or even taking pictures.

Well I blew it big time....but like they say.... "better Late than never"

But I have done a wee bit of stitching while either sitting in the car or in front of the sports channel with my hubby. When our newest little addition was added to our family I thought maybe a shhhh babies sleeping pillow for the front door would be nice. Couldn't quite find that but I did find this old embroider pattern from my Mom and Granny's liquid embroider stash from what seems to be eons ago. I love these old patterns. And yes I did finally complete my "Winterwonderland " quilt and have even found moments to snuggle under it....

Hoping to maybe today to do a bit of long cabin around this little kittie with some of my left over reds from my quilt. Stay posted there Sis, you may even see TWO posts in one day!

Honestly......really ......where does it go? Every morning I seem to wake with great expectations for the day and then just like that, the day is gone! I really do have to start getting myself into some better way of organizing myself. Nobody ever told me that menoPAUSE could really have so many effects on oneself.

Forgetfullness is probably right up there high on my list as well as sluggishness , sleepless nights unless I drug myself up and then yes those raging fires that seem to burn on and on inside of me, and then yes of course there is forgetfulness, or did I already say that? See what I mean and how am really expected to get things done when this is how my body operates

It's a Happy Day

I awoke this morning to once again realize just how fortunate I am to be able to be the Mother to my three very special children and their spouses. One thing I surely don't take for granted is Motherhood. I feel the Lord has truly blessed me with such a wonderful family and what a miracle to have been able to have our three children and now as I look back over this past week that I was at my son's and daughter-in-laws I see those miracles multiplying. How special to be able to rock that new born precious baby in my arms and to play hide and seek, barbies and ponys and all those fun girly games with the two older ones. I'm very thankful for every opportune moment!

Home on Saturday and then Sunday was spent with my daughter and husband and their two boys. Always excitement and never a dull moment as we played inside and out on the wagon and swings. Now I only have to wait for four more days to have the arrival of our two little granddaughters from Edmonton. And I so hope that we will not have to quote Pooh and be saying " Tut, Tut it looks like rain!" because I so want to be able to enjoy the outdoors with the girls when they arrive.

So as usual I am so very busy but oh so very grateful I am! Hope to spend sometime in my sewing room too while the girls are napping of course!

It's been awhile...actually it's been a real long while

Hardly even know where to start but a trip out to Ontario might be good for starters. My sister Wendy & I planned a surprise visit out to Mom's for her 76th birthday. First time she had all four of her children with her on that day since 1975. In my opinion...Way way to long.

She had many birthdays with her children just not all four together.

She just kept looking at us, smiling, shaking her head, and saying I just can't believe that you are really here! Now that is why I love surprises!

Visits with Aunts and cousins added pleasure to our trip as well. As much as we love our family, Sis and I could not spend every waking moment doing family things and besides Mom had gotten her Passport in the fall of last year and had yet to even try it out! We figured it was high time, so over the bridge we went into Soo Michigan. Yup! You guessed it! Second stop(first stop was for MOM) at Joanne's and then to the Quilted Moose. I must confess when it came time to pack my suitcase it was almost 20 pounds more than when I came and the only thing that wasn't material was a small bag that was purchased at the Bath & Body

My plans for next week is to get a wee bit of sewing and organizing done, but nothing but pleasure for me this week-end! Off to see our newest additon to the family.

Block of the Month

Saturday was a very quilty day....This year our guild decided we would do a block of the month and learn some new techniques and use our blocks in the end to make comfort quilts.

And we are being taught by some of the finest in our guild! Coming home with only one block done left me feeling a little guilty and behind. Well Family day I had no family home so I decided to finish up my 3 other blocks to complete this. So far we have tackled railway fence, flying geese, logcabin, steeple chase(curves), applique, lotsa triangles & now paper piecing. When I catch up (who knows when that will be) I will post the rest of the blocks. Oh ya I forgot to say that I challenged myself to do a christmas block of each of these that I would make into a table cloth...so far I think I have one of those done.....Keep watching!

SHOW & TELL

Friday afternoon and Saturday was a much enjoyed day....visiting with my quilting friends and finishing my Redwork Winter Wonerland quilt I must say was my highlight of the week-end. When I got home and went to download my pictures from the day I noticed that someone must have taken my camera and taken a picture of me at Show & Tell.

I was able to bring a friend from Australia to our guild which we all enjoyed so much. And she even showed us all up ! She was the first to complete her Steeple Chase block...Way to go Jane!

A New Year and New Promises

yes I guess you can call it New Years resolutions if you like, but I prefer to call it promises and yes I have made a few!

One being that I promise to keep my body in better shape....somehow over the past year and a half I have neglected to keep my body fit and I'm thinking i really don't like how I look and feel. So yes it is a promise to exercise in some way 5 days a week.

I also made a UFO List to send to our guild and I have made a promise to tackle one of those projects weekly. Check out my side bar....I will put them up there

Our guild president challenged us all to send a list into her by the end of January and each month meeting at show & tell if we have something that we have stroked off our UFO list our name goes into a draw for a $250.00 gift certificate at one one our local quilt shops. Now is that encouragement or what??? I have 21 items on my list.....hmmmm, I wonder how many times my name will be entered in for the draw? I will keep you posted...

We had a great time in Alberta this past 10 days, the only problem is that my entire list of things to do still awaits me. I did purchase some yarn though and made a few pairs of socks for the kids for Christmas. That little scarf and Ponytail Hat is now complete as well. Thought I would give you a little peek and then it's off to work this gal must go. My little Biscochitos's (mexican christmas cookie) are a definate must today as well as I'm hoping my butter tarts and of course I must wrap a few more presents and get them in the mail today.

It's beginning to look alot like Christmas...inside and out!

Wow!!! From hosting the quilt show to Family arriving I must say I'm

surprised I have even found time to sleep! But I did and even found time to make these cute little mug rugs that I know I will use so much at my desk and the snowman family pannel went together rather quickly and if you look closely at the stars you will notice that many of them are embellished with crystal's....and the Paper Dolls from Blueberry Hill are for my darling little granddaughter. Now tell me what Grandmother could ever resist purchasing this material and doing something with it!

But oh so much fun and I just needed to share with you a few of my latest little creations and then I will show you our little creations from the Lord....my oh my , we have been so blessed!

I had a blast

Our fall quilt retreat was this past week-end and yes! I had a blast. I just love it when I can eat, sleep and quilt and steadily repeat that over the week-end. Wake up at 5:00 a.m. and head to the sewing machine and a hot cup of Java. No lunches to make, no beds to make, no meals to make, no phones to answer and I could go on and on.

well I did actually get a block of the month block completed and 27 of the 28 blocks I need to complete my Winter Wonderland Quilt....I'm so excited, but I'm home now and yes Life in general has taken over and I have not even finished the one block I have left to do. Will someone please lock my doors and shut my phone off! LOL Only one thing happening on my list tomorrow and that is a much needed haircut and other than that I hope to quilt the day away!! So stay tuned......pictures of the new me and maybe even a quilt top to show you!

Oh ya...I won a door prize this week-end....two charm square packs by Moda..."Spirit". I love them, now to decide what to make from them.

And I forgot I made a Hot Cakes pot holder to match my table runner. Hope to maybe get a few more made before Christmas

It's Done

the top for my Be Attitudes Quilt. Our quilt show is now 17 days away..... can I actually get it finished so it can be displayed???? That will be the question, and if I were the placing bets on me I would have to say no! But you just never know, do you? And then again if there were a few friends putting the pressure on me I might even get at it a bit quicker. Yes I would have to say I probably do better under pressure!

And then of course I have the center done of my Winter Wonderland and just had to share the next phase of the quilt with you. My sister and I have been working on this project together and she has her top completed with some spare polka dot border print that I could just not find anywhere here in Saskatchewan, eccept the mail box of course....thanks, Sis! I love how it is just the right shade of red too! I cannot wait to finish my star blocks and just for the record that would be 24 more of those to go..... and so the count down begins

It's not complete, but I'm excited to be able to post a picture of my inside blocks all stitched together for my winterwonderland quilt and even more excited that I found some wonderful cream and red flannels to make a scrappy back for it...I plan on using all my left over reds as well as these new flannels to complete it. I've been "Challenged"

Last nite while out on the golf course I got this text from my sister telling me to check my email. Well when I got home I did just that! But before I go any further I should tell you that I faithfully check out her blog that I so much enjoy. She has a cottage on the water where she spends her summers and of course the sewing machine and quilt supplies go everywhere she goes.....needless to say she is busy busy quilting and stitching away and i have had a quilters block and have had no motivation to even get at my quilting projects so yesterday when i checked out what she has been up to, I replied by telling her I was counting on her to inspire me to get back at it!

Well it worked! She challenged me to an hour at a time ....me setting the time and calling her and together we would work on quilt blocks. I replied with a message that I would call her at

6:00 a.m. my time and we would begin, and that we did! Ok we cheated a wee bit! we were having so much fun that we spent 2 hours on the phone together talking , cutting, ironing, and sewing. And just look what I have to show for it!

My first block for my Winter Wonderland quilt! I'm so excited! Thanks, Sis! Love ya!

I love the giggles that I captured here in the tub that nite!

All week I have been waiting to get pictures of the grandchildren in the tub. But it hasn't happened and I only have one more night! While out in Medicine Hat at our son's family I had planned ahead and taken pictures of the girls because I knew I wanted to make a collage of pictures with bathtub photo's to put on the new walls in the bathroom! It's looking like I might not get those pictures this time around. I did manage to get one picture of little Kohen in the tub, but that was it! So I'm posting pictures anyway, but they are not on the walls of the bathroom yet. We had a wonderful week together, and I feel so blessed.... the only thing that could make it better is that all of them would be here together.

We did have that in March when the babies were born, but already it seems so long ago!

with laughter, babies cooing, crying, smiling & toddlers running wild in excitement to see each other...yes my girls are home with their children and I will have a most enjoyable week. The only bad thing is we are having terrible weather...high's of 5 -7 and rain rain, wind, wind and more of the same....this has been going on since saturday and is not to let up for a few more days...
So sad, and I wanted to be out in the yard, playing and planting with the kids....now what's a Grandma to do??? Make cookies and paint and all that indoor stuff I guess! So off I go to organize my day with the kids
will post pictures later of all of our activity....and it won't be happening in my sewing room. Can't wait until i can teach them that!!!

Be Kind....makes me think a Mark Twain quote. Kindness is the kind of language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see.

Be Positive....makes me think of my Granny and what a difference a positive attitude can bring

Be Warm....this makes me think of the old saying " Cold Hands...Warm Heart"

It's all in the Attitude....and like the designer of this quilt I too hope to uplift attitudes and values to those I love as it hangs from the walls in my home... I thought it would be a perfect teaching tool to hang on the wall in the toy room for my grandchildren

OK, that's it, I really must be productive this afternoon.

I have these Be Attidtudes quilt blocks that are just waiting for my sewing machine to take them on... I wonder if my machine will win out this afternoon. Hope so, then I might actually show my blocks off before I put the quilt together! What do you think? Can I do it? It is snowing, so there is no reason for me not to be tucked in to my sewing corner.

Here goes, but first things first...have to feed those twenty hungry seniors their lunch of Jamaican Pork, Rice pilaf, Green Bean casserole, Citrus Cabbage Salad I of course dessert Coconut & Strawberry Cake(sounds interesting, eh!) I have the help of three other ladies, so don't be thinking wow! what a job for me to take on... Well I'm off to stir the pork and toss the salad and then maybe catch a few minutes at my sewing machine before I have to head out to the Seniors Villa!

And guess how you spend your days when Saskatchewan Spring hits you with just above freezing temperatures and howling winds all day long? Yup, you guessed it! Quilt the day away....and of course I have to share... The colours are quite a bit nicer than the camera shows, but it gives you an idea. Now I just have to wait for her to get old enough to want a "blankie" to snuggle with. I picked up the panel while in Edmonton when she was born, but did not want to make your basic panel quilt. So with a bit of measuring , making some pinwheel blocks and adding a logcabin designs around the blocks I was able to create this little blanket for our darling Olivia! I can't wait to be able to give it to her, and I only have to wait 241 days.

First things first

Well I had planned on quilting the day away and doing some catch up in my sewing room. But you know how plans go??? Never as planned! But that is totally OK, because my change of plans involved having my grandson Kayd for a sleep-over. We have been having a great day as you can see. A little T.V. and popcorn, stories, baking cookies for Papa, trip to the mail and store and then before you know it the day is over. So I guess maybe tomorrow I will have a quilt top to post
So for now...I think I will just enjoy my little grandson, some cookies and a cup of Tea!

except the snow that is! I was a little sad to see the ground covering with that fluffy white stuff when I arose way too early this morning. And if you want to know why I was up so early it was because I just could not sleep with all the quilting ideas that danced in my head while falling asleep last nite! Every time I woke up these different quilt ideas seemed to enter my head. But it feels so good to be thinking quilting again. It's been far too long. Yesterday our town hosted our spring potluck guild meeting. What a great time of chattin, sewing and eating ....and oh ya a little stitch rippin' too! Our guild is working on our quilt for the fall raffle and we encountered a little error that set us back. But smiles and laughter stayed with us as we made corrections throughout the day. I'm anxious to be able to post a picture of our ribbons and bows quilt , but you will have to wait a bit.

But I did get my Tin Can Challenge back and I just have to share ....I love all my blocks and can not wait to decide what to do with them...I have posted a grouping of them all together as well as some small indivduals. If you have any ideas as to what i should do with them please feel free to share....Once again, thanks Ladies.

I was beginning to think that I would never get some of my quilt projects completed. I now know that I just have to be at home for at least a week or two at a time. I'm happy to finally have my "Country Star" dresser runner completed after being cut out for over a half a year. And then guess what I go and do? Hang it over my door (which I love to do with runners) and I love it their. So I guess I still have no runner for my dresser in my spare room. So off I go to see if I have enough material left to design a dresser runner with my scraps.

My Sister Wendy and I had such a great time together here and of course the time just flew by. I remember watching the calendar days and getting excited for her arrival and just like that...she is now gone! It really isn't fair, but I guess life is just like that and I should be more grateful for the shared opportunities that we have.

Sisters make you laugh till your cheeks hurt, Sister can pull you out of a dumperyday. Sisters are always there for you, Sisters are heart to heart talks and remember when stories of our childhood. Sisters are good times shared. Sister are the best, especially when it is you....Love you Wen, sure enjoyed our time together and of course looking forward to the next time already!

It's my Mom's and very good friends Birthday's today. Happy Birthday to A Mom that could not be found any better if you searched this whole world over and a very special friend that the last 33 years have added many blessings to my days. I wish you both much happiness!

And speaking of Mom's Birthday I once had started out this quilt thinking I would maybe make it for her seeings how the Moda collection was "three Sisters"...how fitting for Mom having had us three girls. And then do you know what she went and did? Changed her whole colour scheme...but that's ok. For not being my colours I have found the perfect spot for it!

And I just had to share it quickly on my "so called quilting blog" because it is the first quilt related thing I have to show for myself!

Grrrrr. why now

I've made it through all these months of stress, worry, busyness, anticipation ,tiredness and the list goes on, and just sailed through it all and now I awake yesterday morning to find myself with a yucky eye infection. Right eye just oozed infection all day...did the doctor thing and now it's in the other eye this morning! And I have babies here! Can that be fair? I say NOT!

Anybody got any good home remedies? I only have two more days with our darling little Olivia and her big sister Carly. I really do need to get better by the days end, and well if I don't I guess I will just go through one MeGa size of hand sanitizer. Well off to start my day and I guess I really shouldn't be complaining. Sorry , just had to vent!

Still have some things I need to get caught up on before my sister arrives from New Brunswick!

So Precious

I feel so blessed to have had all my children home. It doesn't happen very often so I savor every moment and anticipate of the next time already. The two little ones in the center have gone back to Alberta but I will still have my oldest daughter here with her new babe and daughter till Friday of this week.

I was so looking forward to Easter together with them all but it didn't quite work as planned....You know how it is? Babies just pick their own arrival time and we just have to work around it. So Easter at the Gibney's this year was just a few weeks early, but we had a blast. Just love the fun of doing Easter crafts with the kids and of course the Easter Egg Hunt! I will post pictures later as things are still a little busy around here. Well off I go to get the morning coffee going as my girls are just arising with there wee ones, and I love to cater to them as they sit and nurse their babes.....Even though I have tons that could get done, I will enjoy these few mornings that are left . Then it is busy busy busy.....Lots to get done before my sister and her husband arrive from New Brunswick

My family that is. This Grandma is going to have a very busy next 4 days, but oh will she love every moment. Our once not too long ago family of four is now 14 and all 6 grandbabies 5 & under....hmmm, quess when our children get started on a mission they don't waste any time. ha ha

And not only have my children arrived but I think winter has decided to return to us too. I'm thinking I'm not very excited about that, but like i sid the other day, there sure are a lot of things in LiFe we have no control over.

My next week I hope finds me spending a little time down in my sewing room, tiding up and get ready for my sisters arrival from New Brunswick...I so can't wait!
Will post some pictures of our cookie baking, easter egg painting and sliding out on the frosty hills a little later...

Wow...Nothing like taking this Grandma off guard! I recieve the news this summer that my two girls are having babies 7 days apart....Arrival dates are suppose to be March 21st and March 28th . We haven't even reached either one of their term dates and we have two beautiful wee ones added to our family. Last week I added Olivia to my postings and now I have our 2nd grandson to add to our family. He entered this world very quickly on Sunday March 14th, bright and early....6:25 a.m. after arriving at the hospital at 6:10 a.m. Not much time to spare there for Mommy! Kohen Cameron weighing in at 7 lbs, 20 inches long. All seems to be going well as he has already been to the rink to watch his Daddy's first hockey game last nite.

So I guess all the anticipation is over for this Grandma; I now await the arrival of my great grand niece, who was due to arrive into this world before her two cousins...go figure, eh! Just goes to show how little control anybody really has in this world! LOL

I now await the arrival of the rest of my family as we celebrate the new additions together. What blessings we have truly recieved.

Olivia Jayne Uchacz joined our family just a wee bit early arriving on February 18th weighing just over 6 1/2 lbs. Her grand entry into this world was suppose to be on March 21st, but she decided she just could not wait any longer to be with us....how lucky fo us. Mom and baby are doing fine and this Grandma is now back home awaiting the arrival of the next little one. Our youngest daughter Tamm is expecting any day now....oh the anticipation , hmmmmm

Now you just have to take a quick peek at Olivia to see how much of a cutie she really is.

Hi there: And I really do mean a little about me! A journaler I'm not but would love to start a blog to share my love of quilting....Ok well maybe a little about my wonderful family and love for scrapbooking as well.
I am first off a wife to a much devoted husband of 33 years who also shares in my love of quilting through his patience and $$$$$ . LOL Not cheap to quilt these days. I am alos a mother to three wonderful grown up children that have blessed me just about 6 times with the most wonderful grandchildren. So do expect to see them in amongst my quilts as it seems I have lately been spending more time with them than at my machine. But no complaints here, except that the pile in my sewing room is getting just a wee bit high!
Hoping to meet some other quilt lovers over time as well as share and view others quilted treasures.
I live in small town Saskatchewan, and have been there for 35 years, and I must say I love it, except that of course it is just s wee bit too far from some of my family.
